In the Ming dynasty, there was a scholar who failed the Imperial Examinations over and over again. He finally tired of pursuing fame and money. He became determined to learn the Tao and went to a mountain cave to seek discipleship with a Taoist master. The Taoist was delighted after carefully examining him.

The Taoist asked the scholar what he wanted to learn. But the scholar had nothing particular in mind and answered that he just wanted to learn the Tao. From then on, the Taoist taught him how to meditate and taught him something new every day.

明朝時，有個書生，參加科考屢次不中。深感世態炎涼，便決定放棄塵世功名，出家尋道。經人指點後，書生來到了武當山，見到了一位道長，欲拜道長為師。道長上下打量了他一番，內心不禁暗暗自喜。然後緩緩的對他說：你想學什麼呢？書生沒有多想，只是誠懇的說：弟子只想學道。於是，道長每天給他講道，教他打坐入定修煉。幾年後的一天，道長叫來書生，對他說:“我想建一座宏偉的天宮。但資金不足，所以想讓你，白天到山下繁華街的市賣胭脂，晚上回來接著打坐修煉。”書生想，做弟子的只有遵從。就問：“師父，弟子沒有錢，去哪裡可以弄到胭脂呢？他的師父是怎樣回答他的呢？請看視頻。
